Broadway has it’s (three) Donna Summer(s)! LaChanze, Ariana DeBose and Storm Lever will reprise their roles as “Diva Donna,” “Disco Donna” and “Duckling Donna” in “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.” The trio originated the roles in a developmental production at the La Jolla Playhouse in late 2017. Previews begin on March 28 with an opening night slated for April 23.
- Told through the dramatic lens of her final concert, Summer: The Donna Summer Musical presents the complexities and conflicts the famed songwriter and singer faced in her meteoric rise and descent. The show features a score with more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You, Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff.”
Sometimes we all just need to talk to someone about the newest cast album or latest Broadway opening. Unfortunately, for many of us, not all of our friends care about Bernadette Peters taking over as Dolly or that the new Mary Poppins movie comes out THIS YEAR!
So what are we to do? Continue to rant at them about things they don’t understand or care about? Of course not! Instead we will trick them into caring about everything Broadway just like us.
Casually work into conversation all of the awesome people that have been on Broadway.
“Oh, you like that new Ariana Grande song? Did you know that she got her start on Broadway?”
“Wanna watch Modern Family? Did you know that Jesse Tyler Ferguson is a Broadway baby?”
“Yes, Hugh Jackman is awesome as Wolverine, but have you seen him dance in tight gold pants?” (He won a Tony for that!).
Rewatch childhood favorites with them like “The Lion King” and “The Sound of Music”.
Introduce them to other movie adaptations of musicals. If they are a fan of fairy tales, show them “Into the Woods” and let them discover the genius that is Stephen Sondheim. Or if they are more of a gore fan, tempt them with a little “Sweeney Todd”. And if none of that seems appealing to them, everyone can enjoy “Chicago”.
Start listening to some of your favorite cast albums with them! Show them that there is more variety in Musical Theater music than they thought!
Take them to a show! Find a Broadway show or a local High School production that excites them and treat them to a night on the town!
If all of these steps are followed with care, you might just make yourself a new theater friend!

The Iceman Cometh is a ferocious American classic that has lost none of its power to send one shaking into the middle of the night.” Beginning March 22, 2018, Denzel Washington, fresh off his extraordinary sell-out runs in both Fences and A Raisin in the Sun, comes back to the Main Stem in “the greatest American play” (New York Magazine) by “the greatest American playwright” (The Washington Post).

- Emma becomes an instant outcast—and a national headline—when her high school cancels the prom rather than let her attend with her girlfriend. Sensing a chance to correct an injustice—and maybe get some good publicity along the way—a group of fading celebrities takes up the cause, and invades Emma’s small Indiana town. But their bumbling attempts at social activism make the situation far worse than they—or Emma—could have ever imagined. Cultures clash and the town erupts in chaos. The community’s reputation, Emma’s future, and the celebrities’ careers, all hang in the balance until a true hero emerges to save the day. Uproarious and ultimately uplifting, this new musical proves that standing up for yourself—and inspiring others to accept their differences—can make you the star you were always meant to be.
There is something special about NYC in the wintertime. The tree in Rockefeller Center, the windows at Saks, and the cold weather- which brings out the great winter accessories and a desire to go inside and stay inside! We can think of a few places that you could spend a few hours indoors beating the cold… Perhaps it’s the Al Hirschfeld theatre, or maybe it’s the Majestic.

Unaware that he is actually human, and not an elf like the rest of the community around him, Buddy’s enormous size and poor ability to make toys cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on an adventure to New York City to find his real birth family. On arrival Buddy notices that New York doesn’t share the same outlook on Christmas as he does, Santa isn’t real in their eyes. His Father Walter is a book publisher and is more concerned about his job, rather than his family. It’s up to Buddy to inject the festive spirit into the city of New York, as well as bringing his family together to remember the true meaning of Christmas.
